ACCOMPLISHMENTS
2011
TRA initiated a billboard campaign on I-35 North and South of Austin and was joined by other rail advocacy organizations to show the need for improving our passenger and freight rail service in Texas. The campaign ran during the 2011 Legislative session.
TRA organized events for celebration of National Train Day at Dallas Union Station and the Fort Worth Intermodal Transportation Center. Participants included BNSF Railway, Union Pacific Railroad, Trinity Railway Express, Amtrak, the Museum of the American Railroad and others with both equipment displays and informational tables.
TRA participated in the Texas Shortline and Regional Railroad Association annual meeting held during the National Shortline Railroad Association conference in San Antonio.
Texas Rail Advocates board members participated with the Texas Railroad Association and the Texas Shortline and Regional Railroad Association. Visits were made to the offices of state senators and representatives to discuss rail issues.
TRA President Peter LeCody testified before the Texas House Transportation Committee on behalf of House Bill 377, which is an integral part of the Rail Relocation and Improvement Fund
7th Annual Southwestern Rail Conference - January 28, 2011. Held in the Grand Hall of Dallas Union Station, bringing together the public and private sector with presenters covering both freight and passenger rail issues
2010
October 2010 - TRA President testified at the public hearing in Austin on the Texas Rail Plan that the new Rail Division needs to be the one voice and vision for future passenger and freight rail development.
A TRA letter was distributed to all Texas House and Senate members urging them to make good on funding the Rail Relocation and Improvement Fund, that voters approved in a constitutional amendment in 2005.
Held the 6th Annual Southwestern Rail Conference at the Magnolia Hotel in downtown Dallas. Keynote speaker: FRA Deputy Director Karen Rae. Also participating: Association of American Railroads; Executive Directors of Transportation for Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
Organized National Train Day at Dallas Union Station and Fort Worth ITC with equipment exhibits from Union Pacific, BNSF Railway, Trinity Railway Express, The Museum of the American Railroad and other participants.
Met with over 12 elected Texas officials and their staff during Day at Capitol Hill during National Association of Railroad Passengers board meeting.
2009
Held the 5th Annual South Central High Speed Rail Corridor Conference in Dallas at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Dallas in conjunction with the RPCA (Railroad Private Car Association). Conference speaker presentations posted online.
Participated during Railroad Day at the State Capitol in Austin with members of the Texas Railroad Association and met with members of the House and Senate on rail issues.
Met with elected officials and their staff during Day at Capitol Hill during National Association of Railroad Passengers board meeting.
Organized the Dallas and Fort Worth activities for the second annual National Train Day at Union Station in Dallas and at the Fort Worth Intermodal Transportation Center.
TRA board members met with various state and federal legislators during the year to inform and educate their staff on issues concerning the South Central and Gulf Coast rail corridors.
TRA offered testimony during Texas Senate Transportation hearings in Austin and Arlington on the need for a Rail Division within the Texas Department of Transportation. A Rail Division was subsequently created by TxDOT.
TRA President spoke before the Texas Transportation Commission on the need to establish a Rail Division with TxDOT.
